Meet the Authors!

Beth McCord is an Enneagram speaker, coach and teacher for over 17 years. She is passionate about coming alongside individuals and helping them re-write their story, allowing them to see that lasting change, meaningful relationships, and a life of deep purpose is possible. This passion is what drove her to create the Your Enneagram Coach community, and a safe place for individuals to explore the typology.

Jeff McCord is the Executive Director of Your Enneagram Coach, a certified Enneagram coach himself, and practicing family mediator. He has a Masters of Divinity and has served as a pastor with the Presbyterian church in America congregation for the last twenty years.

The McCords have two grown kids and currently live in Franklin, Tennessee with their blue-eyed Australian Shepherd dog, Sky.

Enneagram and Family

By now we have come to realize that everyone has a different personality. Parents often have different personalities from their children. This can seem to make parenting much more difficult.

The Enneagram and family dynamic can been seen through the lens of our different types especially when we recognize what causes us stress. As a result, do we project some kinds of things onto our own kids that we require for ourselves?

Sometimes we may feel like our way is the only way. Consider how much of what we require of our kid is our preference and how much is based on real training in discipline?

“Our Heavenly Father intends to use our children to draw us closer to Him, not to prove that we can do it apart from Him.”

For example, I can tell you that as a type 2, I want my children to understand and love people, so I teach them what I can. Then whether they develop that heart is up to them and the Lord. My son who seems like more of a 7 likes to get people excited about things, but sitting long enough to listen to their feelings may not be his strength.

Beth notices that as moms, we tend to beat ourselves up and heap onto our spirits self condemnation, shame, guilt, and fear, thinking these dark places will turn into something positive.

What we need to remember is that Christ already took care of everything! There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). We can do our best to know ourselves, pray for strength and courage to fight our fears, and recognize the good things that each family member’s type brings to the table.

Studying the Enneagram and family dynamics allows us to rest in the assurance of who we already are in Him.

Enneagram and Family Fears

Our #1 command in scripture is “DO not fear, for I am with you.”

“Fear becomes an opportunity for us to experience God’s presence in a new way.”

Enneagram says “how does fear show up for the Type __?” This tool pinpoints where we naturally fear so we can be aware of when we’re slipping into fear rather than faith.

Enneagram and Family Hopes and Dreams

We have many expectations coming in to marriage. For many of us, those expectations continue long after. Jeff explains why our spouse will never fulfill our deepest longings, and why that’s a good thing.

God intends to use the most significant relationship we have on earth to become the people he desires for us to be.

Here’s how you can start your own journey with the Enneagram and finally be at peace with who God made you to be:

1. Take the free assessment to find out your type and your spouses type (they will have to take their own).
2. Take the marriage assessment – covers spirituality, family of origin, communication, conflict, and becoming your best selves together.

You will recognize healthy and unhealthy patterns, and what your next steps might be to have safe conversations to benefit you as a couple.

There is a special course for every couple type – 9 individual types and 45 couple types. Go to YourEnneagramCoach.com and start today!
