What is Prepared?

“There’s got to be something between 0 and 10 years of canned beans…”“There’s got to be something between 0 and 10 years of canned beans…”
Kathi felt like she was “anti-prepared” for an impending crisis. Maybe like you and I, she didn’t know where to start!
You may have believed that no on can ever be fully ready when things happen unexpectedly. You’re probably right. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take a few steps in the direction of… prepared.

Prepared, Not Scared

During the research and interview processes for her book Ready for Anything, Kathi noticed that people responded in one of two ways to the idea of preparing. When faced with the option to think ahead for crisis or disaster, people seemed to fall into one of two categories:
1. Just trust God

2. I want to be prepared, but I’m overwhelmed by where to start
Getting prepared feels so big, doesn’t it? But it doesn’t have to be.

Ready for Anything is full of practical steps, one small category at a time.
95% is common sense, and 5% just feels weird, because, you may not think certain things will ever happen! But when they do, you’ll be ready.

Prepare Your Family Well

In our interview, Kathi predicts what’s going to come out of this Covid-19 pandemic season:
“We are going to start to value space more than stuff… it’s going to be the great alignment of our principles and our purpose.”
Many experts say that people only plan for crisis when they’re IN a crisis. Which makes sense, because nobody wants to walk around thinking about the worst that could happen.
(Although, if you’re an Enneagram 6, this might be your whole personality. We did an episode on that, too).

“When you’re ready for anything, there is peace instead of panic.”

Kathi says there’s an old saying that goes: Trust God, and tie up your horse. God has given us a brain and the resources to not just prepare ourselves, but others around us, too.
As Christians, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, so as you take these steps to prepare your family, you will survive to serve others around you.
