About the Author

Sarah Mae has found herself to be in the ministry of spilling your guts.

Through the “spilling” of her own honest and vulnerable stories, she’s learned that no story is too unsafe, no past is too awful, no heartache is too great that God’s grace can’t cover, recover, and heal.

Sarah is the author of several books, including The Complicated Heart: Loving Even When It Hurts, Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe (with Sally Clarkson), and the Bible study, Psalm 40: Crying Out to the God Who Delights to Rescue Us. She is also the host of The Complicated Heart Podcast.

She resides in Lancaster County, PA with her husband of 15 years, three children, and their green-eyed yellow lab, Memphis.

When You’re Not a Natural Cleaner

Do you ever feel like you’re not a real woman because you don’t love to clean your home?

Sarah is not naturally organized. She would constantly struggle with keeping her home clean with young kids.

Her extroverted nature, and a burning need to not feel stuck in a messy home all day led her to write a devotional series. She realized that being a homemaker was not part of her identity, but she still wanted to learn to do it better.

“If we are secure in Him, then we can do these other things and just make sure they’re something we do and not something we are.”

Feeling Like a Big Sinner

Sarah encourages us to not condemn ourselves for being undisciplined or lazy. If cleaning doesn’t come easy for you, it’s just something that might take a little extra effort. Maybe a guiding hand (that’s what mom hacks are for!)

Maybe other things like writing, creative arts, music, or cooking are easier and bring you more joy. Don’t discount your gifts just because maintaining a home is hard.
