Knowing Our Audience
Year 4 of Speech and Debate!
Chloe and Asher continue to thrive in speech club, and this year we’re in a whole new environment!
Jenn planted a speech and debate club within the kids’ homeschool co-op Arise Academy. We school with about 40 other families and they have many more high school friends they see regularly. Our speech and debate club has been a great elective option and they get to welcome other students into the public speaking experience.
If you live in the Honolulu area and are over 18, we would love if you came out to judge a tournament! Click here and choose “Region 1” from the dropdown for future dates and opportunities.

Chloe Bryant
Chloe joined NCFCA Honolulu when she was 12 years old. She turned 16 this year and this is her 4th tournament seasons including three times traveling to the North Carolina National Open, three times to Regionals and twice to Nationals. Her strengths are in the interpretive speech cateogries which allow her to utilize her acting skills. This year she’s focusing on Duo Interp and Persuasive. She hopes to earn a spot to Nationals this June. Chloe’s favorite things are Marvel Movies, Japanese anime / Manga graphic novels, and ramen.
“After being in spech and debate for three years, I want. tobe able to talk about things I was passionate about. For example, my persuasive speech this year was about body insecurity. It’s an issue I’ve struggled with myself and I wanted to give words of encouragement to others as I compiled research and worked on better delivery each tournament. “

Asher Bryant
Asher joined NCFCA Honolulu when he was 11 years old. He turned 15 this year, grew another 4 inches, and is now taller than both of his parents. NCFCA continues to be a lively and innovative environmet for him to get creative with his topics, try out new ideas on new audiences, and stretch his public speaking “sea legs.”
Asher loves poke bowls and suchi (almost more than life itself), and his best friend TJ (pictured here). His favorite activities are video games and youth group with friends.
“My speech skills have grown in the past year and is still growing. I’ve become more accustomed to looking devilishly good in a suit, so I must deliver what my audience needs: laughs and a good time.”
North Carolina National Open
Black Mountain, NC
Chloe and her Duo partner Ariel traveled to the North Carolina National Open in February 2025! They placed 12th in the nation out of 45 duo competitors! This was Chloe’s first time placing at a national tournament and traveling so far without parents. They had a blast, and she returned home on her 16th birthday 🙂 What a magical trip!
